BOOK REVIEW: TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

Author: Rachel Lynn Solomon

Published on: 28th July 2020

Genre : Young adult fiction

The book is concentrated on Rowan Roth and Neil McNair, the biggest rivals of the Westview high. It’s the last day of school, who will be declared valedictorian? Who will win the howl, an annual senior scavenger hunt with 5000$ cash prize? Who will get the opportunity to brag their superiority once and for all?

Neil wears suits, and believes “The Great Gatsby” to be the epitome of literature. He plans to become a lexicographer in future.

Rowan is into writing romance books and aims to become an author. Her ultimate goal is to destroy Neil and to scratch off the list she made in the freshman year.

She has her head in the clouds when it comes to her PHSB (Perfect High School Boyfriend).

WHO IS DEFINITELY NOT NEIL!

But do they really end up destroying each other?

The academic nemesis team up to win the howl when they discover that few of the players have turned up against them.

Will they be able to set aside their differences long enough to beat out the competition? or will they realise that they can have fun when they aren’t trying to take down each other?

It is a 2-day read. The book follows a witty and exciting story that takes place within 24 hrs.

Today – nemesis

Tonight – damn, I like my nemesis

Tomorrow – nope, I love my nemesis

Part puzzle solving and part romance. The starting of the book felt a bit boring to me but eventually I got engrossed in the story. I find enemies-to-lovers concept quite cliché but this book has the right mixture of wit, awkwardness, self-doubt, vulnerability, and passion! I loved it! One thing that really amuses me is that in the book the female character is more comfortable talking about sex than the male, a really rare case scenario when it comes to romance books. Rowan muses about the fact that romance as a genre centers women in a way that other media does not, and yet it’s often treated with disdain.

For those Indian teenagers who dreamt of a modern high school experience should definitely READ this book.

The book has right amount of sarcasm and mockery which makes it fun and exciting to read.

"I'm actually quite sophisticated. I put things on plate before I eat them. You've heard of them, yeah? plates? See also:bowls."

The protagonist faces self-doubt when it comes to choosing her future career which I feel would be relatable to most of the students of the same age. I loved the little details of what rowan felt throughout her 24 hour adventure. The book takes the reader on a very nostalgic high school ride. The only con of this book is that one needs to know a little about famous artists and authors, Jews and Seattle, as the book has a lot of references. But apart from that, the book is a good read for YA lovers. You will fall in love with the story and the characters as they take you along on a ride of emotions through a course of a SINGLE DAY.

I give it a 3/5 stars
